(Video) Thomas Rhett's Very Hot Summer Tour Did Not Disappoint The Woodlands

July 1, 2019

This past Saturday, the much anticipated Very Hot Summer Tour starring Thomas Rhett, Dustin Lynch, Russell Dickerson & Rhett Akins finally landed in The Woodlands at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The pavilion holds 16,500 and it looked a little less than sold out from my vantage point. When I arrived, the show had been delayed due to a massive storm that was moving from North to South directly over the pavilion. Lightning was the threat but eventually subsided and the show as on.

Normally, the show would have been more spaced out with longer performances by each artist but the weather delay forced everyone to play abbreviated sets of their hits. This worked out good for the fans, ultimately. First, the delay got everyone a little on edge but when the all clear was granted the energy began to buzz. Folks got back to the lawn, others found their seats and late arrivals were in time to see Thomas' dad, Rhett Akins, play three songs. Immediately afterward, Russell Dickers wasted no time taking the stage to pour a little gasoline on the every growing fire of energy coming from the Woodlands.

Let me tell you, Russell Dickerson gives 110% at every single show and was a joy to see on stage. He was exactly what the crowd needed to get their party vibe rockin' at CWMP. He played about 4 or 5 songs including his hits "Yours" & "Blue Tacoma" and Whitney Houston's "Dance With Somebody" which got the entire crowd on their feet. Then, he took to MC duties and helped the live dj pump up the crowd for Dustin Lynch while the stage sets were changed.

Then, the beat dropped, the blue and white lights flooded the stage and Dustin Lycn in his signature smile and Cowboy Hat emerged. In typical Lynch fashion, he rocked the crowd with party anthems, love songs and one of his most famous tunes ever, Cowboys and Angels. Dustin shared his appreciation with the crowd throughout the entire performance thanking them for support and sticking through the weather. This was all the night needed to set the table for Thomas Rhett's huge entrance.

The entrance reminded me of Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl. Smoke filled the air and TR came flying up from under the stage in dramatic fashion to the beat of "Look At What God Gave Her." The crowd was ALL IN for the show. Thomas Rhett grabbed a hold of this captive audience and treated them to one massive hit after the next. Afterall, he as 13 number one singles so it was easy to put together a mix that would have the crowd into it the whole way.

Perhaps, one of the moments that projected how committed the crowd was to the entertainment came when he slowed things down for "Die A Happy Man." The crowd of 10,000+ country music lovers all sang in unison with Thomas Rhett and from a close-up vantage point, he was moved to tears. It was a specail night for all the fans in attendance but the real credit goes to all of the stars who made the Very Hot Summer Tour worth every second spent in the Woodlands!
