School Districts Announce Plans For School Year

What will the upcoming school year look like?  Area school districts announce their plans for reopening. 


Aldine Independent School District

Aldine ISD will be virtual for at least the first 3 weeks. After that, parents then need to decide on in person or virtual learning and have July 19th to decide.

Alief Independent School District

The district will begin its school year completely onlin for at least 3 weeks.

Even though students will not returning to campus in August, the district is still planning social distancing and safety measures for when in-class learning can resume.

Alvin Independent School District

Alvin Independent School District is letting families choose either face-to-face or virtual instruction for the upcoming school year.

To enroll in virtual instruction must meet specific requirements such as having passed all grades during the 2019-2020 school year.

Brazos Independent School District

As Brazos ISD tries to plan for 2020-21 school year, parents are being asked to complete a short survey regarding access to transportation, technology, and more.

Clear Creek Independent School District

Clear Creek Independent School District will allow parents to choose between in person and virtual learning.

Cleveland Independent School District

Cleveland ISD is phasing in their reopening plan following state and CDC guidelines.

They are still awaiting guidance from the TEA for guidance on other areas such as class size limits and extracurricular activities.

Conroe Independent School District

Conroe Independent School District will provide both in person or virtual learning.

Parents must choose by July 28th and will ve able to change after 9 weeks. 


Crosby Independent School District

Crosby Independent School District has not finalized its plans for the 2020-21 school year, but intends to offer both face-to-face and virtual instruction.

Cy-Fair ISD

Parents have the choice of in person or virtual learning and have until August 10th to decide.

Fort Bend Independent School District

Fort Bend ISD said it will start of the year with virtual instruction for the 2020-21 school year.

No in person extracurricular activities during virtual learning.

Friendswood Independent School District

Friendswood ISD will offer both face-to-face and virtual instruction but has ruled out the hybrid method due to evidence that shows the method does not effectively reduce transmission.

Galveston Independent School District

Galveston ISD continues to plan for the upcoming school year with the feedback from parents.

Galena Park Independent School District

Galena Park ISD will offer both face-to-face and virtual instruction for the upcoming school year.

Beginning July 20th parents will be able to select their preferred instruction method for their child(ren).

Goose Creek ISD

School will now start in September with 3 weeks of virtual learning

Harmony Public Schools

Harmony Public Schools will allow each family to choose whether to continue learning from home or return to campus for in-person learning for the 2020-2021 school year.

"Families can also switch between the two as local COVID-19 conditions or family situation changes.”

Houston Independent School District

The school district will delay the start of the school year till Sept. 8th.  Online instruction will be for at least the first 6 weeks. 

Face to face instruction will begin Oct. 16th.


Humble Independent School District

Humble Independent School District released its reopening plan.

Katy Independent School District

Katy ISD said that they are working on a full reopening plan and will release the plan to parents and students after July 13.

Klien ISD

Klien ISD will allow parents chose between in person and virtual learning and must decide by July 24th.

La Porte Independent School District

The district is scheduled to begin face-to-face classes on August 19, but will provide flexibility for those students who choose not to attend school in person.

The district also notified parents that students should continue to use any devices they received during the end of the previous school year.

Lamar Consolidated Independent School District

Lamar will of on campus and virtual learning. Parents must decide by August 9th.


Magnolia ISD

Parents must choose virtual or in person learning by July 29th.  They will have the option to change after 9 weeks.


Montgomery Independent  School District

Superintendent Dr. Ann Dixon said she does not plan to make changes to the traditional calendar that was already approved.

Calsses begin Aug 24 with the choice of in person or virtaul learning.


New Caney Independent School District

New Caney students will return to school beginning August 10.

A full plan has not been revealed.

Pasadena Independent School District

Pasadena ISD students can expect to return to school on August 18 with parents having the option to choose between on-campus and distance learning.

Pearland Independent School District

Classes are slated to begin on August 19 with in person and online classes.

Parents will be given the option to decide whether they prefer on-campus or remote learning and will have until two weeks before the first day of school to make this decision.

Sealy Independent School District announced the district will provide both remote and face-to-face learning opportunities for its students.

Sheldon Independent School District

Sheldon Independent School District will have a town hall meeting on Facebook live on Monday, July 13, to discuss students returning to campus, remote learning, fine arts and athletics, and more.

Splendora ISD will open its schools on August 12.

Spring Independent School District

Spring ISD introduced a “COVID-19 Operational Decision Meter” that allows teachers and students to make adjustments to their learning environment. The levels are color-coded with red being the most severe and green being minimal.

Spring Branch Independent School District

The Spring Branch Independent School District will release its reopening plan on the evening of Wednesday, July 15.


Texas City Independent School District

Texas City ISD is still working on its plan for the upcpming school year.

The district has sent out a survey to collect feedback from parents and staff to help with the planning.

Tomball ISD schools is considering three methods of learning for students. Parents must decide by July 24th.

YES Prep is offering two instructional options for students and parents to choose from: online and in-person.

All students who will attend YES Prep in-person will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of their chosen option of instruction.
