Granger's newest project will make it's way from your screen to your heart.

November 30, 2018

Granger Smith's artistic evolution has taken new heights as he makes his debut as a film producer with the release of his brand new project 'They Were There: A Hero's Documentary'. Granger's self-produced documentary tells the heartbreaking story of five fallen soldiers which shines a light on those that make the ultimate sacrafice in the name of freedom.

The short film was released at midnight on Friday, November 30 via his official  YouTube channel and it was something I had been looking forward to since it was announced,

"This is about five fallen soldiers, and it's about the sacrifice they make that represents the life that I get to live," Smith told Taste of Country.

Truth be told, this documentary hit very close to home, in fact it was one of my best friends in the world that reached out to me shortly after midnight reminding me that this was finally available - with tears in his eyes. You see, this friend of mine is a United States Marine that served in Afghanistan and I recall as if it was yesterday the moment he announced that he would be serving our country. I was scared, I selfishly didnt want to risk losing one of my brothers and he selflessly decided that my freedom, our freedom, was worth fighting for. This is what it is all about.

I was 5 minutes into the documentary and the tears began to stream down my face. This documentary goes over the dangers of war and the difficulty to overcome everything that takes place in the name of that liberty we often take for granted.

"One of the stories of these five fallen soldiers is suicide. I learned a lot about PTSD and results of suicide, and the staggering statistics of that." Smith added. "All injuries, I've learned, are not physical."

I personally would like to thank Granger Smith for sharing such an amazing concept with the world. We live in a time of divisiveness and it is stories like those of these five heroes that put everything in perspective and remind us just how precious and short life can be. It reminds us that it is easy to live our lives with love and kindness as a token of our appreciation to those that sacrificed it all and to those that continue to do so each and every day.

I hope you take a moment to watch this film and share it with all of your friends and family members, these stories need to be heard, these incredibly brave fallen soldiers deserve to be honored - along with others that came before and after them.
