Houston Texans Defensive End J.J. Watt won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his charitable work in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. While the Texans were stuck in Dallas Texas as Harvey passed through Houston and devastated the city, Watt decided to set up a website to try and raise $200,000.
He quickly shot passed that mark and ended up raising over $37 Million dollars. The J.J. Watt Foundation has taken those funds to help rebuild schools, houses, daycare facilities and more. All the funds are staying right here in Texas, helping those affected.
Watt was only able to play in four games for the Texans in 2017, suffering a fracture to his tibia plateau in week five of the season.
It was announced Saturday Night at the NFL Awards in Minneapolis that Watt was the 2017 NFL’s Walter Payton Man of The Year recipient.
