I can’t believe I never figured this out! There has been multiple occasions where I have put all different flavors of Skittles in my mouth at once and I thought I figured out this amazing Skittles secret cocktail and in the end it taste that dang good because they are all the same flavor!
And you might even be fooled because you grab a purple one and you taste grape, or a yellow and you taste lemon, but according to a neuropsychologist they have a generic fruit taste.
In fact, the reason we think they taste different is because our brains associate different colors with different flavors. We know yellow is supposed to taste like lemon so we think it taste like lemon!
To go further, Skittles are scented as well! So when you bite the Skittle you actually smell that flavor to which makes you believe you’re eating that flavor!
And as for an explanation for why they don’t just make one the actual flavor, the neuropsychologist said, “it’s cheaper to make things smell and look different than it is to make them actually taste different.”
