Highlighting The GOOD News & Recognizing The Positive….
It’s back to school time – and I think we all know children who are chronically absent in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade are much less likely to read on grade level by the third grade, and by high school, attendance is a better dropout indicator than test scores.
Homelessness is one of the big problems facing teachers….Did you know that Texas Has Over 100,000 Homeless Students Statewide? Some schools have found this leads to an unusual contributor for high absenteeism – dirty clothes – so some schools have found an answer.
With the help of WHIRLPOOL CARES, 60 schools across the United States will have washers and dryers installed.
In a test program, East High School in Utah reportedly has 80 homeless students out of 2,000. The students are either living in shelters, on the streets or staying at friend’s houses. Since the school installed washing machines and dryers, they have proved invaluable to the homeless teens, as well as students whose families are too dysfunctional to own working laundry appliances.
Well done Whirlpool, it’s not something we’d ever really thought about it – but we love that they are making a difference in a positive way.
So wherever you in the kitchen or in the car….throw you hand in the air – CAN I GET AN AMEN!
