The notion of a self titled album holds value for an artist, to me. It’s the physical embodiment of the phrase, “I’ll put my name on it.”  The self title is a statement of certainty and originality. Brett Eldredge’s self titled album is his best complete piece of work and there’s no mystery as to why he put his name on it.

From the kick, Brett’s rugged clarity sears through to the listener with “Love Someone.” From the accompaniment of a chorus like background and a happy-go-lucky-freedom feeling you can hear the purity of Brett’s vision and path.

If you’ve been following Brett you know that he’s got a large following of ladies who not only love his music but love HIM. He’s a steady man crush Monday and surely graces the cover of plenty of cell phone lock screens. He does a fantastic job of keeping his personal life out of the spotlight but he gives a peek into his life with “Superhero.”

It’s milliseconds into the third song, “The Long Way,” when you hear the evolution of his sound. The synthesizing melody leads into the undeniable vocal quality possessed by Brett. He delivers a love song about wanting to spend as much time as possible with the one you love and is the perfect set up to his next set of expressions.

Then, the piano shifts and we’re taken to the vintage sound of Brett’s creativity with “The Reason.” This track depicts today’s dating woes to the T. The concept, the lyrics, the indecision, the mood and the sound reflects the situation for many, no doubt.

A break from the love of romance comes with the lead single from the album, “Something I’m Good At.”  There comes a time in one’s life that they realize there is something they were meant to do and this record is Brett’s jovial expression of the elation that comes from finding that thing.

Now, if one were to take Eldredge’s music literally, you could say his song “Haven’t Met You” is an ode to the companion he’s looking for to complete his life.  It’s the age old idea of “I’ll know it when I meet you.” There’s still hope for you, ladies!

While Brett was a songwriter on every song of the album he enlisted the help of some incredible songwriters: Ross Copperman, Heather Morgan, Tom Douglas, Jordan Reynolds and Matt Rogers. This dream team of writers mixed with Brett’s vocals and personality is a combination that we are going to see for some time to come.

He was teamed up with Tom Douglas on “No Stopping You” and it exhibits the power of his voice in an uplifting slowly elevating sort of way that rings of believing in oneself. There’s something about setting someone free and relinquishing control and this record appears to be Brett’s encouragement of pursuing dreams beyond a romantic misstep.

The classic family tale of a Country singer comes through with “Brother” where Brett sings an ode to his life long partner in crime. It’s the perfect set up to the feel good, upbeat return to Brett’s swagger laced walk through life with “Heartbreaker.”

This prepares the listener for the final three songs that close out this incredible display of musical abilities. “Crystal Clear” reminds me of the beach vibes we’ve heard from the likes of Chesney, Buffet and Brooks but it has Brett’s twist. Whereas the predecessors sing like they like to live on the beach and Brett is certainly living the vacation.

Next, perhaps the most powerful ballad on the entire album, “Cycles.” Brett exposes the side of love lost and the rigid exchange that sits atop a slippery slope when two people come back together.

The album is capped by “Castaway” which is the perfect ending to an incredible collection of musical ear worms. It starts with a picking of a guitar and continues the acoustic sound that magnifies the power of Brett’s timeless voice.

Music has a power to draw in a listener but it takes something special to take them on a journey through an album. Brett and his team mastered this experience with the self titled release of, “Brett Eldredge.”
