Well, if this isn’t the wildest thing I’ve heard all day, I don’t know what is because this wild times a hundred. Pretty soon, we’re going to see hog hunters flying overhead in hot air balloons with rifles to rain down bullets on feral hogs. If you live anywhere near the home of feral hogs you know how much damage they can cause. I’ve seen it first hand in Conroe at West Fork Golf Course where they destroy the fairways while trying to look for food.
Sure, these hogs don’t realize they’re being a nuisance but that doesn’t sit well with land owners and property owners who have to deal with the giant mess they make. I’m not a hog hunter but I can’t imagine there are that many people who own hot air balloons AND hunt hogs. This seems a tad bit dangerous but maybe the over head view will give them a better angle than sitting in the tree stands and waiting.
Perhaps, they’ll use some sort of infrared technology to see them moving to chase them down with the hot air balloon? The state already allows you to hunt them (and coyotes) from a helicopter but this hot air balloon method is brand new. According to news reports, feral hogs cause millions of dollars in damage to crops and property every year and because they don’t have many predators and they breed rapidly the population is getting to be unbearable.
I have a few questions that hopefully you will answer:
- Are there that many hot air balloon hunters?
- Do you eat feral hogs?
- What kind of weapon do you need to kill them?
- Do you see this working?
