You can file this in the “wth just happened” file. Linda Stevenson was headed to court this week and she brought along her squirrel monkey in her purse. As is customary at all courthouses, she had to go through a metal detector and x-ray machine. Surely, courthouse members have seen their fair share of odds and ends through the machines but this might take the cake.
The woman’s purse set off the alarm on the x-ray conveyor belt and when asked about it she replied as if it was a completely normal occurrence. According to MLive, “I pushed the button for it to go through when it started making noises,” said Bay County Sheriff’s Court Security Deputy Pat McIver. “I was like, ‘What was that?’ She goes, ‘Oh, that’s my monkey.'”
After asking to see the monkey, they informed her that she wasn’t allowed to bring it in the courthouse so she took it back to her car. After her court business was handled the staff asked her to bring it back in so they could see it again. She claims to not have had a ‘monkey-sitter’ so she figured she could take the Texas born squirrel monkey with her since she wouldn’t be in the courtroom for long.
Apparently, this monkey is from Mission, Texas where there’s a breeder. Now, I’m tempted to buy my own pet Squirrel Monkey but you can bet I won’t be taking it to the courthouse. There’s no way that x-ray machine is healthy for any living animal.
