(Photo) Teacher Suspended After Her Rude Snapchat Post Students At Prom

In Bedford, Ohio, a local coach and teacher let off a bit of a rant on her Snapchat that has landed her on the suspension list. Allegedly, she saw kids riding to prom in a horse and carriage and that irritated her enough to post this on her Snapchat:

Ohio Teacher On Paid Leave For Snapchat Comment About Student's Splurging On Prom -blogged by- @peachkyss ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A middle school teacher from Bedford, Ohio is on Administrative Leave after posting about students on Snapchat. The teacher posted, " These damn kids and parents…not enough money for school supplies or passing grades but out here renting horses." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, apparently someone got a hold of her Snapchat before it was deleted and screenshot the post. Parents were in an uproar about the post. A parent stated, " I think it's very disrespectful to the parents. We pay taxes in this city, so that teachers can make a nice salary to do their job, not to comment about our kids." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are some parents that agree with the teacher. One parent commented, "It was the absolute truth. How can she be fired for that?" The Superintendent of Bedford City Schools is investigating the situation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you think the teacher was wrong for what she said or wrong for posting on social media?

According to a Cleveland news organization she said, These damn kids and parents..not enough money for school supplies or passing grades but out here renting horses.” The school says they’re upset with the comments made by the teacher so they punished her with a suspension.

I do think that it’s a bad look for the teacher to bad mouth students but I think the bigger issue to me is that a student would be following her on Snapchat.  Unless it was  parent who screenshot the picture and shared it to get her in trouble then there are bigger questions to be answered. Why would a teacher need to be friends with their students on Snapchat or any other social media network for that matter?  It seems like the prevalence of social media is leading to more lackadaisical relationships between students and teachers and this leads to all kinds of issues.
