Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day! At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity. We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!
Charles Schafer is a tough old fella. 90 + years old, he was born in October 1926, was drafted and served in World War II, and came home to a job at the Colgate Plant in Clarksville, Indiana. There, he met and married Shirley, Charles and Shirley were married for 65 years, until death separated them a couple of years ago.
But lucky for Charles – he had great family around him including his grown Grandson K.C. – Granddad Charles had helped raise his grandson after K.C.’s parent divorced.
They were and are best buds, granddad teaching the boy to pitch and fish and grandson KC always entertaining the old man including when he was 7 years old – declaring that his Granddad would be his best man at his wedding.
Well no one really thought much about that until last year…some 20 years later. KC, the grandson met and got engaged to Sarah. His grandfather said he didn’t remember the promise until KC showed up to take him for a tux fitting. After the fitting, the kids sat Charles down and asked if it would be okay to have their wedding on the exact same date as Charles and Shirley did nearly 70 years ago.
Charles said yes – and the wedding happened on April 15th .
For his part KC said the date is not the only thing he and Sarah would like to copy, “I always said, if I could have half the marriage and be half the man he is, I’d be doin’ well , I feel blessed to have him in my life. I wish everyone else could experience the love and guidance he has…..”.
Charles smiles, pats KC’s leg and says, “You’re going to make me start crying.”
So where ever you are…in the kitchen or in the car – Can you throw your hand in the air… “CAN I GET AN AMEN”… – Focused on The Good it’s the Morning Bull, and if you ever see a story you think would make a great amen – email it in to us at george@thebullhouston
