CAN I GET AN AMEN: Girl With Alopecia Wins Competition With Gorgeous Jeweled Head

Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day!  At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity.  We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!

Schools are having testing time right now – and some schools try to relieve the stress with fun contests.  A School in Utah announced a couple of months ago – that during testing they would have a  “Crazy Hair Day” competition.  All the students getting to wear their hair in weird shapes and colors and the teachers and administrators would judge the best ones.

And Gianessa Wride, like all the kids,  was looking forward to the fun.  But in January, while her mom was brushing the 7-year-old’s hair – it started falling out in clumps.  Mom and Dad took Gianessa to the doctor and that’s when they got the heartbreaking news Gianessa has alopecia, which is an autoimmune disease that causes hair to come out.

Her mom said “We let her go to bed without telling her what was going on. I didn’t want to scare her.” Mom told CNN, that by the time they were able to take Gianessa to a dermatologist — about a month later — all of the girl’s hair had fallen out. Her mom went on to say “Like any 7-year-old, I think, she expected that it would just grow back because everybody has hair,”  – but it didn’t and Gianessa even lost her eyebrows.  So what are parents to do when “Crazy Hair” is coming up at school?

Well Gianessa’s had a brilliant idea. She decorated Giannesa’s her head with scrapbook sticker jewels and last week Gianessa won the ‘CRAZY HAIR COMPETITION at her school.

“They just fit her personality. She’s so vibrant and full of life and she loves everything sparkly.”  Gianessa’s intricate jeweled stickers easily won the competition.  Her mom said “She knows that it won’t grow back and she has just embraced that and is still living life to the fullest and doing everything that she still loves,”

So where ever you are in the kitchen or in the car…can throw your hand in the air, “CAN I GET AN AMEN” for this … Always focused on the good news, and if you ever see a story that would make a great amen email it in at George@thebullhouston.com
