I’ve seen a lot of posts about new rules for tubers to be aware of when hitting the river this Spring and Summer and this one just threw me for a loop! Jello Shots are always a hit when my friends and I are on the river. They’re easy to eat, they taste fairly decent and you can pack hundreds of them in a cooler but not anymore. (The only people cheering are the girls who usually have to do the heavy lifting in making them every year.)
Seriously, this rule applies to rivers within New Braunfels City Limits (Lower Guadalupe below the Gruene Bridge and the entire Comal River) and were set by the NB City Council. The rule doesn’t explicitly say jello shots but it does say no containers under 5 oz allowed. This would mean jello shots in containers under 5 oz and mini bottles of liquor. (Another shot to the party plans.)
Along with this ridiculous rule here are some others that I found:
Music Restrictions – Music can’t be loud enough to be heard beyond 50 feet.
Cooler Restrictions – The maximum permitted cooler size is 16 quarts and 1 per person.
For a full list of the rules you can click HERE.
I don’t think these new rules will dampen the party too much on the river but it does open the door for more citations for things you may not be ready for. It could also mean your plans being stifled because of a technicality. Make sure you know the rules before you hit the river so your party isn’t ruined and your buzz isn’t killed. As always, please drink responsibly and don’t drink and drive! Get a ride or have a designated driver!
