Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day! At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity. We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!
A couple of AMEN’s in this story and if you’ve ever had a teenage boy in your house – you’ll relate to this story. Back in August, Josette Duran’s son, Dylan, made a special request: Could she pack an extra sandwich and chips for him to bring to school for his lunch?
Josette said yes and thought it was just because he was going through a growth spurt. But when she asked Dylan, he explained there was a boy who sits by himself and eats only a fruit cup, He said he didn’t think the guy had enough money to buy lunch, so that’s why he asked for an extra lunch every day.
Josette learned that the child’s mother had lost her job and couldn’t afford to pay for his lunches. It was a struggle she and Dylan understand all too well. They were homeless four years ago and “(lived) out of (their) car… and on friends’ couches.”
When the other boy’s mom learned what Dylan and Josette were doing for her son, she offered to try and pay them back. But they refused, and that’s when the second amen happened…the girls’ volleyball coach and team heard about it and raised hundreds of dollars & “..paid up all the past due accounts for all the kids that need lunch,”
Josette said, “…now no one in that school owes any lunch money to anybody and everyone can eat.” By The Way, if you’d like to join this “pay it forward lunch” movement – you can contact your school and talk to them about paying off past due lunch accounts
So where ever you are in the kitchen or in the car…can throw your hand in the air, “CAN I GET AN AMEN” for this mom and her son… Always focused on the good news, and if you ever see a story that would make a great AMEN, email it in at George@thebullhouston.com
