Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day! At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity. We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!
We all get excited for birthdays – and if you have kids you know that sometimes that excitement can last for weeks. Melissa Alvarez’s son Anthony was no different. The 5 1/2-year-old had been telling his mom exactly what he wanted for his birthday and how he wished to celebrate, even though his birthday was still months away.
For Melissa hearing all these details was extremely sad. It made her sad because the doctors had told her that her son who was battling cancer was unlikely to see his 6th birthday. But when Anthony lost his battle to cancer just a few weeks later, Melissa decided she would get all the things Antony had talked about and take to their local Children’s hospital to let other children celebrate on Anthony’s birthday.
Now this party would normally be our amen, right. But there was more bad news to come. This past weekend Melissa bought all the super hero goodies, because Anthony loved dressing up as superman and batman. But before she could get to the hospital the goodies where stolen right from her driveway. They took EVERYTHING, including some items that had belonged to Anthony. Monday night a local TV station reported on the theft and by yesterday – good folks had come forward replaced every single thing on Anthony’s birthday list and more.
Bruce Rosenblum, one of the donors said, “It really angered me that something like that would happen, that somebody would do something at her lowest point. And when you can make a donation, which are scarce at some of these pediatric units at the hospitals, or bring toys, it means so much to the parents,”
Also now the owner of Dream World Comics in Culver City joined Alvarez and was working to set up a shopping spree for sick children at Children’s Hospital L.A.
Anthony’s mom simply said “…I can’t believe there’s wonderful people out there. My son is so blessed, I am so thankful,” Alvarez said, with a smile.
So where ever you are…throw your hand in the air… “CAN I GET AN AMEN”… – Focused on The Good it’s the Morning Bull with George, Mo and Cowboy Dave!
