A co-worker told me about her dog getting attacked by an alligator and Cowboy Dave told us of a 9ft badboy that was spotted yesterday…of course I’m going to be a little freaked out! But Texas will not live in fear! Forget gators, I’ve gotta tell you the LITTLE guys who’ll kill ya this summer.
Every alligator sighting tends to make humans uneasy, but I have great news, you are more likely to be killed by a bee this summer than an alligator.
A journalist gathered all of the statistics on animal-caused fatalities in the United States between 2001 and 2013. Twelve years of people dying from animals seems like a pretty good chunk of time in order to get an accurate reading, right? Now, we have a chart of which animals are actually going to kill us. AWESOME!
Bees, wasps and hornets are grouped together. They kill the most people each year with an average of 58 people. Seemingly gentle mammals like horses, pigs and deer came in second with 52 per year. I’m tellin’ ya…my irrational fear of horses may not be so irrational after all 🙂
Cows kill about 20 people a year while sharks, alligators and bears each just kill just one person a year.
Hey! Happy Summer!
