Elephants are some of the smartest, most gentle and intriguing animals known to man and the Houston Zoo is giving you an opportunity to come to know more about them.

The “Elephant Open House” will take place at the Houston Zoo on Saturday, May 18, 2013. “That’s when Methai, Tess, Tucker, Shanti, Baylor, Thai and Tupelo will welcome you into their home – their very big home – the elephant barn at the McNair Asian Elephant Habitat,” added officials with the Houston Zoo.

During the exploration of the elephants and their habitat, participants can learn what the elephants eat every day and what is involved when it comes to giving an elephant a pedicure. Participants can also learn about an elephant’s diets, training and so much more.

“During the Houston Zoo’s Elephant Open House, the state-of-the-art elephant barn at the McNair Asian Elephant Habitat will be open for exploration,” added zoo officials.

“Each elephant ‘bedroom’ in the barn will highlight a different aspect of elephant care. Throughout the morning you can meet the keepers who care for our herd every day and learn more about these majestic animals that call the Houston Zoo home. The Elephant Open House also includes a continental breakfast.”

Zoo officials also encourage the early purchase of tickets as capacity is limited to 100 guests. “All proceeds from the Elephant Open House benefit elephant care at the Houston Zoo,” added zoo officials.
